Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 230

1045 PM CDT Tue May 16 2017

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Central Kansas

* Effective this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 1045 PM

  until 500 AM CDT.

* Primary threats include...

Isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible

Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

  A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY...A cluster of storms across southwest Kansas should

continue to move northeastward into central Kansas, while additional

storms move into the region overnight out of northern Oklahoma.

Damaging winds and bouts of severe hail will be the most common

hazards, but a linear-storm-related tornado risk cannot be entirely

ruled out given the strength of low-level shear.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 80

statute miles east and west of a line from 25 miles north of Salina

KS to 35 miles southwest of Wichita KS. For a complete depiction of

the watch see the associated watch outline update (WOUS64 KWNS

WOU0).

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
