The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Tornado Watch for portions of

  Northwestern, central and southern Alabama

  Western Panhandle of Florida

  Coastal Waters



* Effective this Thursday morning and afternoon from 525 AM until

  100 PM CDT.



* Primary threats include...

  A couple tornadoes possible

  Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible



SUMMARY...The severe-weather threat will increase over the watch

area from a band of thunderstorms, initially over Mississippi and

Louisiana, which has a history of damaging gusts and a few

tornadoes.  This activity should weaken from north to south across

northern/central Alabama as the morning progresses, but will pose

the threat for a tornado or two in the meantime.  The threat will

last longer over southern Alabama, into at least early afternoon.



The tornado watch area is approximately along and 70 statute miles

east and west of a line from 20 miles south of Pensacola FL to 70

miles east northeast of Tupelo MS. For a complete depiction of the

REMEMBER...A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for

tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch

area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for

threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
