URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 141

NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

315 PM CDT Thu May 31 2018

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Western and central North Dakota

* Effective this Thursday afternoon and evening from 315 PM until

  1000 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include...

Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5

    inches in diameter possible

Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

  A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY...Destabilizing air mass related to steep lapse rates and

moderate moisture will support severe storms including a few

supercells this afternoon. Large hail and locally damaging winds

should be the main concern, although a tornado cannot be ruled out

along the surface boundary even with relatively weak low-level

shear.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 55

statute miles north and south of a line from 55 miles west of

Dickinson ND to 75 miles northeast of Bismarck ND. For a complete

depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline update

(WOUS64 KWNS WOU1).

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.
