The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Southwestern Kansas



* Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 400 PM until

  1000 PM CDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

  Scattered large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible



SUMMARY...Scattered thunderstorms are developing along and south of

a slow-moving front, in an environment favorable for both strong

updrafts and downdrafts.  Primarily multicell storms will be capable

of producing isolated large hail and severe downburst winds as

storms interact and potentially grow into small clusters through the

afternoon/evening.  Any threat for supercell structures should be

confined to the surface front.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 50

statute miles north and south of a line from 50 miles north of

Elkhart KS to 20 miles east of Dodge City KS. For a complete

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.
