The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  South-central and southeast Kansas

  West-central and northern Oklahoma



* Effective this Friday morning and afternoon from 845 AM until

  300 PM CDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events

    to 2 inches in diameter possible

  Isolated damaging wind gusts to 60 mph possible

  A tornado or two possible



SUMMARY...A few elevated supercells are expected through at least

midday, spreading northeast from west-central Oklahoma. Large hail

will be the primary hazard initially. A transition to surface-based

supercells may occur during the early afternoon with the possibility

for isolated damaging winds and a tornado as well.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 80

statute miles east and west of a line from 50 miles south southwest

of Enid OK to 35 miles west northwest of Chanute KS. For a complete

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.

AVIATION...A few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to

2 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 50 knots. A

few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 450. Mean storm motion vector
