The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Extreme Southeast Colorado

  Southwest Kansas

  Extreme Northeast New Mexico

  Oklahoma Panhandle

  Texas Panhandle



* Effective this Wednesday afternoon and evening from 355 PM

  until 1000 PM CDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely

  Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2

    inches in diameter possible



SUMMARY...Storms developing over the mountains of northeast New

Mexico and southern Colorado are expected to move eastward and

intensify over the next several hours.  Large hail and strong wind

gusts will be possible, with the threat transitioning to primarily

damaging winds this evening as the activity consolidates into an

eastward moving squall line.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 70

statute miles north and south of a line from 40 miles west northwest

of Clayton NM to 55 miles east southeast of Liberal KS. For a

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.

2 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots. A

few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm motion vector
