The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Tornado Watch for portions of

  Eastern New Mexico

  Far West Texas



* Effective this Saturday afternoon and evening from 1240 PM

  until 900 PM MDT.



* Primary threats include...

  A couple tornadoes possible

  Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events

    to 3 inches in diameter possible

  Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible



SUMMARY...Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop initially

across a broad portion of eastern New Mexico including the Raton

Mesa vicinity southward toward the Sacramento Mountains. A very

moist environment exists across the region in conjunction with

supercell-favorable wind profiles. Large hail should be the most

common risk, but a couple of tornadoes could also occur given the

moist environment and easterly component of near-surface winds.

Isolated severe-caliber winds may also occur.



The tornado watch area is approximately along and 70 statute miles

east and west of a line from 20 miles northeast of Raton NM to 80

miles south of Guadalupe Pass TX. For a complete depiction of the

tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
