The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  South Dakota



* Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 250 PM until

  1000 PM CDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5

    inches in diameter likely

  Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

  A tornado or two possible



SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will continue to intensify this afternoon

initially across much of west-central/central South Dakota. Some

supercells capable of large hail can be expected, along with some

potential for damaging winds and possibly some tornado risk.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60

statute miles east and west of a line from 30 miles north northeast

of Mobridge SD to 60 miles south southwest of Chamberlain SD. For a

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.
