The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Tornado Watch for portions of

  Western North Carolina

  Parts of central and Upstate South Carolina

  Southwestern Virginia



* Effective this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 625 PM

  until 200 AM EDT.



* Primary threats include...

  A few tornadoes likely

  Isolated damaging wind gusts to 60 mph possible



SUMMARY...Broken bands of supercells will likely persist on the east

side of the remnants of tropical cyclone Fred as it moves

north-northeastward through tonight.  A several tornadoes can be

expected, along with isolated wind damage in the strongest storms.



The tornado watch area is approximately along and 85 statute miles

north and south of a line from 60 miles south southeast of Dublin VA

to 20 miles southwest of Spartanburg SC. For a complete depiction of

REMEMBER...A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for

tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch

area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for

threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements

and possible warnings.

will not be in effect after 625 PM EDT.



AVIATION...Tornadoes and a few severe thunderstorms with hail

surface and aloft to 0.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind

gusts to 50 knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean

storm motion vector 20025.
