The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Southeast New Mexico

  Far West Texas



* Effective this Saturday afternoon and evening from 400 PM until

  1000 PM CDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

  Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible



SUMMARY...The air mass continues to destabilize after lingering

early-day cloud cover and some precipitation, with a very moist air

mass otherwise supportive of moderate instability. Sufficiently

strong winds through a deep layer will support some supercells

capable of large hail, although some stronger wind gusts could also

occur.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 65

statute miles east and west of a line from 30 miles west northwest

of Hobbs NM to 35 miles south of Fort Stockton TX. For a complete

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.
