The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Northwest Connecticut

  Western and central Massachusetts

  Southern and central New Hampshire

  Central and eastern New York

  Northeast Pennsylvania

  Southern and central Vermont



* Effective this Saturday afternoon and evening from 120 PM until

  900 PM EDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely

  A tornado or two possible



SUMMARY...Storms will increase in coverage and intensity this

afternoon with scattered swaths of damaging winds the most likely

hazard. A tornado or two is possible, particularly from the northern

Hudson Valley across parts of southern Vermont and New Hampshire.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 105

statute miles east and west of a line from 30 miles north of Lebanon

NH to 25 miles southwest of Monticello NY. For a complete depiction

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.
