The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Southwest and south-central North Dakota

  Western and central South Dakota



* Effective this Thursday afternoon and evening from 240 PM until

  1000 PM MDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 85

    mph likely

  Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2.5

    inches in diameter possible

  A tornado or two possible



SUMMARY...Initially high-based thunderstorms developing near the

Black Hills should spread east into a very unstable air mass. These

storms will likely be outflow dominant and form into a progressive

cluster towards the Missouri River in central parts of North and

South Dakota. This should result in an increasing risk for severe

wind gusts.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 95

statute miles either side of a line from 45 miles east northeast of

Dickinson ND to 15 miles southeast of Philip SD. For a complete

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.
