The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Eastern New Mexico

  West/Northwest Texas



* Effective this Sunday afternoon and evening from 155 PM until

  1100 PM MDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events

    to 2 inches in diameter possible

  Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

  A tornado or two possible



SUMMARY...Severe thunderstorms should initially occur along a warm

front that continues to shift northward across the region, while

other storms are likely to develop and increase across additional

parts of east-central/southeast New Mexico into far West Texas. With

multiple rounds of storms possible regionally through evening,

supercells capable of large hail should be the most common hazard,

although the potential will also exist for a tornado or two.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 80

statute miles east and west of a line from 45 miles west northwest

of Dalhart TX to 35 miles southwest of Wink TX. For a complete

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.
