The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Central and northeast Kansas

  South central Nebraska



* Effective this Wednesday afternoon and evening from 345 PM

  until 1100 PM CDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events

    to 2.5 inches in diameter possible

  Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

  A tornado or two possible



SUMMARY...Severe storm development is expected in the next 1-2 hours

from south central Nebraska into central Kansas, and storms will

likely persist into the overnight hours.  The storm environment is

favorable for supercells initially, with a risk for isolated very

large hail, while convection may grow into one or more clusters/line

segments later this evening into tonight with a continuing risk for

damaging winds/hail.  An isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out

this evening with the more discrete supercells.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 70

statute miles east and west of a line from 60 miles north of

Manhattan KS to 40 miles west of Hutchinson KS. For a complete

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.
