The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Eastern New Mexico

  Southwest Texas



* Effective this Friday afternoon and evening from 145 PM until

  900 PM MDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 3

    inches in diameter likely

  Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

  A tornado or two possible



SUMMARY...Thunderstorms will continue to develop off the higher

terrain of eastern New Mexico and southwest Texas and drift eastward

across the watch area this afternoon.  Supercell storms capable of

very large hail and damaging winds are possible.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 50

statute miles east and west of a line from 60 miles north northwest

of Tucumcari NM to 95 miles south southeast of Marfa TX. For a

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.
