The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a



* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of

  Southeast New Mexico

  Southwest Texas



* Effective this Monday afternoon and evening from 1215 PM until

  700 PM CDT.



* Primary threats include...

  Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events

    to 3 inches in diameter possible

  Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible

  A tornado or two possible



SUMMARY...Thunderstorms are expected to intensify this afternoon

over the mountains of southern New Mexico - and across parts of

southwest Texas.  A few of these storms are likely to become

supercells, capable of very large hail and gusty winds.  A tornado

or two is also possible.



The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60

statute miles north and south of a line from 35 miles west southwest

of Ruidoso NM to 30 miles southeast of San Angelo TX. For a complete

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are

favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.

Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening

weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible

warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce

tornadoes.

3 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots. A
