While the radar shows light returns in these areas, dry air in the lower part of the atmosphere is causing the sprinkles to evaporate before they reach the ground. Winds were calm or light from the southeast and temperatures ranged from 39 degrees at several cities in eastern Iowa to 54 degrees at a few cities in northwestern Iowa as of 4am. Today will be the last day in our stretch of nice September weather. The only reason this stretch comes to an end is because the calendar turns to October tomorrow. The first few days of October will continue the fantastic fall conditions of dry weather with seasonable temperatures peaking in the upper 60s to 70s each day. The next chance for any rain will come towards Tuesday as a cold front slowly approaches the state, but even then the rain looks very light and scattered. Cooler air will follow late next week behind that front. $$ Ansorge
