Rare November Combo
Posted: 06 Nov 2020 05:33 AM
The crazy nice November weather rolled on Thursday with high temperatures again pushing into the
70s for much of Iowa and not much wind to speak of. The combination of very warm temperatures
and little wind makes for a rare combination during November. Typically, warm temperatures are
thanks to strong winds advecting warm air into the state and/or being mixed down from aloft. The
winds were even reported as calm during some of the warmest afternoon temperatures, which again
is very rare this time of year for warm days. The featured table presents an unofficial IEM accounting
of the warmest hourly November temperatures on record with calm winds simultaneously reported for
that hourly report. Des Moines, Ames, and Marshalltown are shown besting previous warmest values
by a rather wide margin yesterday! Mason City is included for its record beat on Wednesday! We
have a few more nice days to go before seasonable reality returns next week.
