Reaching 90+ in June
Posted: 17 Jun 2025 05:30 AM
After reaching 90+ degrees last week, much of the state is forecast to again be in the 90s for the upcoming weekend. So the featured chart checks in on hourly temperature distributions during June when the daily high temperature was at least 90°F for the same day for Des Moines. The distribution is presented as a violin plot, which attempts to represent the frequency distribution as the width of the shaded area. The distribution mean is shown by the centered red line with the extremes shown at the ends. Of notice is the average temperature is above 70°F for the overnight hours, which is likely a sign of a warm and humid air mass. The current forecast has such warm overnight temperatures for the end of this week.
